MAC eBay Haul

Hey! I’m back!

Sorry it’s been two weeks since my last post…

Kind of got stuck in my Best of series and plenty of things going on at work interrupted my blogging  that I had started after coming back from the holidays…

Anyway…I’ve been bad (or good for the UK retailers) and bought plenty of things in the sales. I will be posting plenty on that this week hopefully.

But today I wanted to share with you some of the MAC make up I’ve been buying on eBay from different sellers.

MAC via eBay

As you can see everything came in it’s original package (the one that’s not shown it’s because I threw it away before taking the pictures)

All the items came from 100% rated sellers and BNIB (brand new in box).

I have to admit I’ve started to buy on eBay only late last year. It’s actually kind of fun if you don’t take it too seriously when you don’t win (that’s a funny term ’cause you’re actually paying for it!).

I actually check first what’s the full price to make sure that I’m not being ripped off!

Regarding MAC makeup I think mostly the things you can find are some limited editions and past collections essentially although there are also regular items but the sold out and hard-to- find ones normally tend to go quite expensive so I stay away from those.

So without further ado let me show you in more detail what I got and my first impressions.

MAC Mineralize eye shadows: Devil-May-Care and Earthly Riches

Without flash (and crappy winter daylight in London)

With flash (closer to what they actually look like)

MAC Mineralize eye shadow in Earthly Riches

and in Devil-May-Care

I have to admit this are the first Mac products I own (I know, I know, I’ve waited all this time!) but I was definitely impressed by the texture and the colours and pigmentation which I found all superb (as everyone else).

They are £15.5 on the MAC website (at least the colors they sell now, these may have been cheaper at the time). I payed 8.75£ for one and 10£ for the other one. Not exactly bargains but a good price anyway I think.

This is what they say about this type of shadows in the MAC website:

“Two Mineralize Eye Shadows in one large compact. One shade features a mélange of three shades, the other provides a complementary or contrasting solid shade. Both provide medium buildable and lightweight application with a pearlized frost finish.”

I used Devil-May-Care a lot during the Christmas holidays over other shadows. It gave a festive sparkly finish. Igot Earthly Riches more recently but I really love the color (aubergines and metallic browns are my favourites for winter) so I’m very happy with it!

Moving on to the rest.

MAC Sheertone Blush in Ambering Rose

Ambering Rose with flash

and without flash (true to actual color)

The color seems very dark in the pan which actually scared me a bit when I got it but since this is a sheertone it’s, well, very sheer (dah!) and buildable.

Here’s a swatch on my hand (I haven’t tried it yet on my cheeks).

MAC Sheertone Blush in Amering Rose

It looks very orange but actually these were more than a couple of strokes so I think if I go with a light hand it will be alright…Will wait maybe to be a bit more tanned.

This was 10£ including shipping (compared to 17.5£ in the website).

Finally

MAC Lipglass in Lust

Lipglass in Lust

Lipglass in Lust

Lust blended

The lipglass is part of the “Mickey Contractor” limited edition. You can still find it on the website for 12.5£ and I got it for 8.6£.

This is a very nude color for me but I like the texture (very rich) so I will wear it anyway. I got it because I thought the color was more like a “dirty rose” which is how it looked in the pictures shown on eBay (without flash) and in the website to be honest.

MAC on eBay

So all in all I’m quite happy with what I got. I have to confess is a bit risky (I wouldn’t have gone for the blush and the lipgloss if I had seen the actual colors) but I guess as equally risky as buying from the website withought checking the products first in the store.

So for people like me that don’t mind having the latest collections and are always in the lookout for good quality products at a lower price I think this is an interesting option.

Do you buy makeup from eBay at all? And MAC in particular?

Purple in my eyes

Last month when I was in the US I bought this nice Maybelline eyeshadow quad in the series “Stylish smokes” in the color “Amethyst” ( maybe the name is different here in the UK, don’t know really).

I  like the colors in this quad very much:

Maybelline's Stylish Smokes in Amethyst

I also like the fact that there is no guess work, every shadow has imprinted where it should be applied (lid, crease, brow bone, outer corner) although obviously you can do whatever you want.

There are even some suggestions on styles you want to try on the back:

Maybelline's Stylish Smokes eyeshadows

I normally go for either the “casual look” or the “classic smoky look” for day and then upgrade to the “dramatic smoky look” at night.

I really love these colors and the quad was quite affordable. Don’t remember exactly but I think it was about 7$? What I don’t like is that they are not very easy to blend and they are not very long-lasting although I’ve only tried them with the mineral ELF primer underneath and still have to try with the Urban Decay primer (I’ll talk more about this one in a different post).

I also bought these quads in other two color combinations: Charcoal Smokes and Natural Smokes

Charcoal Smokes (left) and Natural Smokes (right)

I’ve only used the Natural Smokes so far (actually almost every day for the past week). Again very nice colors but they tend to have disappeared from my lids by the end of the day…I think maybe my primer is drying out? I have a backup (actually 2!) so I think I’m going to try if they stay longer with a new tube of primer…

I’ll keep you posted on the result!

Have a good weekend!

Update 19.10.2010:

Definitely the tube of ELF Mineral primer that I’ve been using lately is the problem here. Today I changed to a new tube of primer and when I came home from work (about 10h later!) my eye make up (eyeshadow + eyeliner) were still intact. I used the Natural smokes palette today but it will probably the same with the other quads.

BTW, the primer has lasted a good 9-10+ months. There is still plenty on the tube but now I’ll start using it as an undereye concealer instead.

Superdrug is my drug!

Last Friday I had no plans after work so I decided to “get lost” in Superdrug. I love going through the different aisles and discover new things at the same time I picked up some of my regular routine hair/make up products.

Here’s what I bought:

My latest Superdrug haul

My old time favourites:

Simply Pure Superdrug’s eye makeup remover

Superdrug's Simply pure makeup remover

This works wonders without irritating my eyes. I now the toner as well. And it’s cheap! What else can ask for?

-Tressemme Curl Hair mousse

Tresseme's Curl Defining mousse

Very efficient in taming the frizz of my curly hair

-Also bought some new wipes I want to try out, also from Superdrug’s brand:

Simply Pure's gentle facial wipes

Optimum eye makeup remover pads

Revlon’s ColorStay eyeshadow quad and single eyeshadow:

Revlon ColorStay eyeshadows

Quad: Gems in Jewels

Single eyeshadow: Peacock Lustre

Very nice colors, love them! Not sure about the 12h stay though, even on top of my beloved ELF mineral primer…but they last a decent amount of time.

-A Nivea lip balm in Pearly Shine: very nice shimmery balm although a bit dry, perfect with some lip gloss on top

-And last but not least…some metallic Barry M nail polish! (was trying to find a nice dupe for OPI’s Louvre me Louvre me not)

Miss Sporty and Barry M metallic nail polishes (with flash)

Nice colors! (without flash)

The Barry M colors are Navy in 292 and Wild Purple in 161. Cannot read the color on Miss Sporty’s bottle though.

I have to say that I’m still in awe of these cheap Barry M  polishes 2 for £5). I just had navy on my nails and it lasted for 5 days without almost any chips, had great coverage with only one coat and with two the finish was flawless.

Cannot wait to wear the purple ones but I’m giving my nails a break…Not sure how long I’ll resist wihout painting them again!

NARS Duo in Kuala Lumpur!

OK, this is not a joke! Three posts in a row with KL on the title…

Anyway, the story is that I went to the NARS website after seeing another eyeshadow duo (Rajasthan, which is also on my to get list) being reviewed. This was back in August I think. I’m still amazed at how some of these beauty gurus get on trends way before the season really starts (just by spotting things ahead of time and buying the item by themselves, not talking here about the product being sent for review by a PR, by the way). Well, I guess that’s why they are gurus, right?

Let me get back on track…So I checked the entire collection of duos and really liked plenty of those the color combinations but there was one that caught my attention, both because of its name and color combination: Kuala Lumpur,(yeah, you guessed right!)

Here it is:

NARS eyeshadow duo in Kuala Lumpur

Just the back of the eyeshadow little black box...

It’s a beautiful golden sparkly (subtle) rose paired with  aubergine, one of my favourite eyeshadow colors .

I didn’t buy it online. I had this crazy idea of  buying it in KL when I was visiting there (see previous posts). It turned out that they didn’t have NARS at the KL airport. Also  my friend who lives there advised me against buying cosmetic brand names in the city because she thought they are much more expensive than in Europe…

So I left KL without KL…

Then  when I was leaving NY a few weeks ago,  at JFK airport with a few minutes to spare… I wandered around the duty free cosmetics area were of course they DO have NARS and thought, why not? After all the ridiculous amount of money that I had already spent in make up+clothes+gifts , just 19£ more were not going to break the bank…

To make me feel better I paid with my British credit card thinking that with the exchange rate it would feel more of a deal (which it wasn’t but anyway).

So that’s the story, KL bought in NYC.

Have used it a couple of times only so not ready for a full review but the colors are really flattering, long lasting and easy to apply which is kind of what I was expecting from this brand.

Just to wrap up, for swatches of almost all the NARS eyeshadow duos check out blushingpixie’s channel (proper link on the youtube roll on the right column). She’s the sweetest person and she swatches the duos one by one with all the patience in the world. Definitely worth checking before buying any of them.
