New Bangles!

I have been in some sort of a craftsy mood lately…

I bought some jade rosaries this summer in Burma but I needed to restring them. After searching on eBay for some stretch thread (basically I want them to double as necklaces and bangles) I stumbled upon the seller/store diamonte-designs.

I was very excited to find exactly was I was looking for and more! They also sell nice bead, including some Swarovski beads in the shape of little butterflies.

This is what I got to restring the rosaries:

Jade necklaces and strech thread

–  Clear Elastic Stretch Wire 0.8mm Thread D31 (£0.99)

And the beads I bought:

-100 x 6mm Black Glass Imitation Gemstone Dyed Beads D52 (£0.99)

4 x 8mm Jonquil Swarovski 5754 Butterfly Beads Bead (£1.50)

Shipping was cheap (£1.25) and it was promptly delivered.

This is what I did with the new beads:

My new glass bead bangles

Elastic Bangles

I really like them so much that I ordered more beads and more butterflies in crystal clear, green and violet.

I haven’t done any this week but I will be posting pictures of the bangles as soon as I make them!

How do you like my new bangles?

Make up bags: Orla Kiely and H&M

I’m always very late with things and trends (and appointments also but this is not the time or place to discuss it…) but I’ve been curious for a while about eBay shopping. I love online shopping, I discovered that when I was living in New York and although I have drastically cut it here I still buy plenty of stuff online.

eBay has the fun of online shopping with the risk of bidding…

So, I decided to do some bidding and I got this nice Orla Kiely make up bag for less than half its retail price! (£26 including shipping charges)

I love Orla Kiely bags. This is from last years summer’s collection in a version of her superfamous stem multicolor print.

I wanted this as a new travel mini makeup bag. I like the fact that it has a lot of compartments. On the other hand this is kind of misleading, If you put stuff in all compartments (and I carry always more than I need) you won’t be able to close the zip! So not all the compartments are that useful…

So I think it’s very pretty and love the colors but it’s not that functional or I cannot carry in it as much as I would like. I will be using it together with other bags. In any case, for my latest trips I always use about three small(ish) bags like this instead of a huge one. I prefer it that way now…

I also recently bought another small makeup bag from H&M.

Sparkling Black

This was a total bargain, just £2! They also have it in red and thought about it but it’s a bit too much even for me. It has replaced my everyday makeup bag that I carry always with me with some of the basics (mirror, floss, blotting paper, gloss, eyeliner, face powder band-aids…).

The funny thing is that most of the time I forget I carry this with me so even if I could do some touch-ups before going to the pub straight from work or whatever I just gorget and go all shiny and with an 8h made up face…

Have you guys bought any nice things on eBay lately?

ELF Free Shipping Hauls

So after all the complaining about not being any significant offers from ELF UK for regular customers (like me!) and finding out that some offers are indeed posted on their Facebook page I went ahead and used a couple of FREE SHIPPING codes that went out early this month.

This is what I bought:

ELF November Haul

Cream eyeliner in Purple and coffee

They come with a small brush (it appears huge in the picture on their website but is actually quite small)

It’s true that it doesn’t budge, it stays put all day long. However it is quite dry do you have to apply it quite fast.  It is definitely hard for me to apply with the brush provided so I’ve tried other (longer brushes that I owe). For me it is easier to apply it with a bent liner brush.

I find the purple is more pigmented than the coffee. Didn’t buy black because it’s permanently sold out and anyway, I tend to use purple or brown much more often, anyway.

Hypershine Lip Gloss in Flirt and Berry Cherry

ELF Lip glosses

I also owe this in “Cloud Nine” which is basically a clear gloss with a wonderful coconut smell.

These colors are more pigmented but still very sheer, Flirt goes towards the pink and Berry Cherry is a bit mauveish. Both are indeed very glossy, easy to apply and leave your lips feeling veeeeery smooth. However the taste of these is kind of weird. Definitely don’t like it as much than Cloud Nine but they are great for the price (£1.50).

I did some swatches but they don’t really come out well and true to life in the picture…

Super Glossy LIp Shine Spf 15

I bought it in Mauve Luxe. Definitely the more pigmented of the glosses. It has a nicer smell/taste and also leaves your lips super shiny and smooth.

Healthy Glow Bronzing Powder

I bought it in “Luminance” which is basically just a highlighter.

Very seer with a nice shimmer and not sparkly at all.

Healthy Glow Powder

On my finger

It is actually more transparent and not as yellowish as i shows in the pictures.

Here are some swatches on my hand:

After smudging it

Without smudging it

As you can see no risk of looking like a disco ball with this powder (in fact I’m not sure if it shows that much at all…) but I have been actually using it almost everyday since I got it and al least it looks good when I apply it. Not sure it lasts that long though…

Under eye concealer and highlighter

Bought it in medium. This is quite moisturizing as well and I like the fact that it doesn’t look as cakey as the mineral concealer from Maybelline that I’ve been using these past months.

In the ELF website they syate that “Blends in easily and evenly to provide a smooth and natural finish.”. That is exactly what it does.

Haven’t really tried that much the highlighter so cannot comment that much on it. I would happily buy only the concealer without the highlighter…I’m not sure it adds that much to it, but that is just my opinion.

I also got a bag for my brushes to keep them sorted and well kept when travelling.

Shown with My Sonia Kashuk Powder Brush

It is very flat and will prevent my longer brushes to get stuck in the zips of my other make up bags. And also since it packs flat it won’t take that much space in my always crammed suitcase…

I made an order yesterday for some new Crown brushes. I hope they also fit nicely in this bag!

Have you guys bought anything form ELF laltely?

(More ELF reviews to come soon)

Hair & Skin at Boots-Part II

HAIR

The rest of the stuff was for my hair:

Curly, Glossy, Fresh hair, anyone?

The Umberto Giannini were 2 for £7.50 (they were around £5  each).

I tried the Glossing mist and didn’t see any major difference but maybe I’m applying too little or too far. Will keep trying.

I’ve also tried the Glam hair Dry Shampoo (saw it in a video from the adorable lollipop 26, link on the sidebar). I does what it says. Cleaned my oily roots without any residue or white powder effect (like unfortunately does the Batiste). So pretty happy with this one.

I haven’t tried the mousse yet. I’m looking for an alternative to the Tressemme that I’ve been using nonstop for more than 4 years now! Will keep you posted on this one also…

Lastly: a new hairdryer

BaByliss dryer with diffuser

I really needed a new one. The cheapy Boots brand one that I had was really ruining my hair mainly I suppose because it could get really hot sometimes.  This one wasn’t that expensive anyway, around 25£. It claims to give high shine from ionic conditioners.

I haven’t really seen any major difference apart from the fact that my hair lasts clean a day  longer ( I’m not sure how can be due to the dryer but I have been using my regular products and this is the only thing that changed…). Also this one doesn’t get really that hot but dries my hair much faster which I guess in the long run means less heat exposure for my hair…

Will see how it goes in a few weeks time…

That’s all!

Have a lovely rest of the day!

Hair & Skin at Boots-Part I

Last Saturday after meeting some friends to have afternoon tea at Covent Garden I decided to do a little trip to one of the Boots in Oxford Street to spend a couple of coupons that I had been keeping in my wallet  for a while… That was the excuse at least.

Of course I end up buying more stuff…

I don’t know if this happens to you as well. I go into Boots or Superdrug with some clear list of the things I want to buy but with the intention of having a quick look around…then I start seeing all these things that I’ve seen lately on other people’s blogs and decide to give them a go…

Half an hour (being optimistic here…) later I emerged from the store with a (sometimes huge) bag full of products… Some will power for me, please!

Anyway, these are what I bought.

SKIN

First, the whole purpose as I said of going into Boots was to get some discounted N7 products, which I feel are on the pricier end of drugstore products, so I used two £5 off coupons.

Lift & Luminate Day Cream

As I mentioned in my latest post I think, I used  the night cream version of this before and was pretty happy with it. My skin is not as firm as it was (damn aging!) and for some reason in winter it becomes more obvious to me.

I  now use the Olay Regenerist 3 point treatment cream, the one with the red pot (pssst, buy it from Amazon, much cheaper and free delivery!) together with the new serum.

So I decided to get it for day instead. I don’t remember any spectacular result with the night cream  but my skin did look more radiant. So I hope this in combination with the Olay serum (which I use night and day before applying cream) will do the job. I’ll keep you posted.

Please bear in mind that I’m in my late 30’s. I think all these products I’m mentioning will be way too thick for girls in their 20’s…

N7 Color Calming Primer

I saw this in supercute’s Sophie’s Blog (Sophie’s Choice, link on the sidebar) and since I have broken capillaries around my nose and some in my cheeks ( I believe this is the payoff too many crazy sun sessions in my youth…) decided to try it.

This is scary green so I use a tiny dollop only on those areas that I need it. I still need concealer after this but I think it evens out the color and the primer does the trick. I’ve noticed since I’ve been using it my (mineral powder) foundation stays put for much longer (before it just disappeared at the end of the day).

For £6 with the coupon I think this is a pretty good deal.

I will wait for another coupon to try the Shine control primer, which I’ve heard from a Youtuber (dianeuk01) that works really well.

I also bought these…

Neutrogena's Multi-Defence wipes and scrub

After how much I liked the Deep Clean range and since I’ve finished those (check out My Gone Baby Gone posts)  I decided to try these new ones.

The wipes are great as usual. Have plenty of product (unlike the St Ives or the Superdrug sensitive ones) and leave you with a clean skin.

Haven’t tried the scrub yet.

Check out the rest of the haul in my next post!

Have you tried any of these?

How do you like them?

Have a lovely Sunday!

Gone Baby Gone-Part II

On with the products I’ve finished up lately…

Year round fake tan

Well, these are not exactly finished but almost, and I’ve been using them non-stop since about May (not sure that counts, but hey).

The Summerbody is a moisturizer with fake tanner. It keeps my skin well moisturized and has able to maintain the color that I got this summer. To be honest by now the color is almost gone but at list thanks to this a have a healthy color and I’m no scary white like I’d otherwise would be…

The Loreal’s product is a gel. I like it because it’s very easy to blend and gives a naturally tanned color. I don’t specially like the smell but I can cope with it. This has alpha-hydroxy acids which smooth my skin and make it fresh and helps disguise the small/thin (getting much bigger!) lines in my forehead.

N7 Lift & Luminate-night cream

I finished this up before the summer (I used Nivea’s with anti-wrinkle cream Q10 coenzyme with light tanner this summer for daytime). I wanted to give my skin some glow while getting rid of the dullness after the winter months. It wasn’t something instantly obvious but I think by the end of the pot I was getting there and saw some improvement. This is around £20. Not cheap but not the priciest either. I recently purchased this again for daytime using one of the Boots £5 off for N7 products (willing to give another try) so I’ll keep you posted.

Last but not least:

Sally Hansen's Insta-DRY

This has been the ultimate life saver, well, more like nail polish saver.

Since I use this I have been able to apply two coats one after the other, then this and after a few minutes (except when very humid) my manicure is done and stays for 4-5 days. That NEVER happened before.

This has lasted a good three years. In the end it was so thick I could hardly apply it but on the positive side I think it made my polish last even longer. I finally opened a new bottle now.

Bought in the US but I think I’ve seen it in some big Superdrug stores.

Shiseido Benefiance Pure retinol Eye mask

I bought this (a bit of a splurge for me!) as an present for my birthday  (yes, I give myself presents every year!). This is a set of 12 pairs and I’ve only used once so I cannot give a through review just yet. Wanted to used them at least once a week but already forgot last week so…

That’s it!

Gone with the old in with the new! I will be posting some of my new purchases this weekend.

I’m really trying to be good and stop buying things but I’ve been pretty bad lately…

Gone Baby Gone-Part I

It’s not very often (actually it is VERY rare) that I happened to finish a product. Most often than not I get bored with things and moved to the next one before I finish something.

That’s why whenever I DO finish something I feel it must be that the  product either stands out for whatever reason or it’s really something I use daily or both.

So for the past few months instead of throwing away the empty stuff  I’ve been finishing up  I decided to keep it with the purpose of showing them in a post and sharing them with you.

So here they are:

Gone, gone gone!

One by one:

Neutrogena's Deep Clean range

These have been great this past summer. The wipes are moist and get the dirt away leaving your skin fresh and moist. The scrub is very good too. I used it everyday  in the shower and has that minty/fresh feel that I love in a scrub. I saw both being recommended in Youtube by girls with flawless skin and when I saw it in Boots I thought I’d try it. Great choice! It didn’t erase the flaws from my skin but it left it clean and fresh.

Tresseme mousse Curl Defining

I’ve talk about this one before. I like how it leaves my curls (well, defined, yes) when I need to blow dry my hair (which now is almost every time I wash it because otherwise it takes ages to dry…).

Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle

This was recommended by a good friend. And I’m not sure about miracles but this conditioner surely leaves my hair supersmooth and silky the way no other does. The next one I will try is the one for frizzy hair. If you haven’t tried it you should definitely give it a go. Look for the 2 for £6 offers in Boots or Superdrug (which run quite often).

More to come tomorrow.

Which products have you finished up lately?
